I have not submited any work here in about four month's. In truth I went at least three month's without picking up a camera to shoot any personal work. Just frustrated about the current state of photography, is there really any point. Is there any real future to the medium? Don't even get me started on DA. I was going to give up this street stuff, to concentrate more on Fashion and portraits, but a recent trip to Kerry got me shooting some of it again.
Anyway Just saw I got DD and I might as well get going on some recent rolls I developed.
Why would there not be a future? The mainstream is only going to get worse, yes, but there will always be great photographers. It's getting harder to make a living off photojournalism. I'm worried about it. There might be compromises involved, having to shoot other things on the side.
I think fine art photography will be around forever, but as regards the craft side of things like Journalism, I think the future is video tape in HD, and grab the stills later.
When I was 16 walking around town with a camera, It was a strange hobby for a boy to have. Now everyone walks around with a DSLR or cameraphone, kind of dilutes the whole point.
Things start to decay from the moment they're created.
Maybe you're just thinking about it too much, I don't think you should give up because you see fractures in the foundation. I doubt you'd give up Street to focus on Fashion. Not only would you feel like an arse for doing such a thing, but you'd look like one too.
i know what you mean. I worry about the same thing. All we can do is hope for the best. I hope you don't quite street photography though as you and harmonist are two of my favorite street photographers. You have a gift my friend. It'd be a shame to not use it.

As I see it, in long term printed media will die. And probably few things with it. Maybe photography.
But according to Worldpress photo... Sure, New era has begun, but photojournalism is very healthy.
