Okay, for the countless amount of times I've taken someones picture without their permission, as far as I can remember. I've only ever had a hostile reaction three times.
This was one of them.
I was passing a crowd at a bus stop, I waited around them to see if anything would happen or if any interesting characters were about.
I saw this lady look at the sign, sometimes because I shoot Manuel if I havent pre read the ambient light for that particular street it takes me a second or two for the reading. Before I focus and expose.
People who shoot on automatic take photos. People who shoot on manual MAKE photos.
Anyway where was I, ah yes her son (I assume) also at the bus stop saw me. He approached me and told me I was a dirty c*@t, and he should kick my ass. I told him, I had no idea what he was talking about. You took her picture I saw you. I replied back you should be flattered I took her picture, some people pay me to do that.
With that he hurled more expletives at me, as I started to walk away someone had to restrain him.
Was it about sex why he was so angry, I think so. I think he totally over reacted, but he looked like a very angry guy even before I took the photo.
Any who taken with a Nikon f3, 50mm lens. 1/125 @ 5.6. Neopan 400 dev in xtol. Ratio 1:0. No cropping what so ever.
P.S At the moment I now no longer shoot street involving posters, I just thought the story behind it was funny.
Well I think it was okay for him to be mad at me aswell, I just think he totally over reacted.
Considering 99% of the time I don't get caught, yes I am aware of stealth in picture making.
Not you can't be sued in any shape or form for taking photos in a public place. I could sell prints of the people and they still would have no case. Only if you use an image for advertising without a model release.
Otherwise street photography would be illegal.
